A man bought a ticket to travel from New Delhi to Darbhanga to celebrate Chhath with his family. He started with a waiting list of 124 when he booked the ticket weeks earlier. Although the waitlist shrank to 12, it surprisingly grew again after the final chart was released. Journalist Himanshu Jha expressed his frustrations about the RAC ticket system on X (formerly Twitter), raising questions about the reservation process of Indian Railways.

“What is going on in the railways? On October 30, the ticket RAC was 31. Yesterday it was stuck at RAC 12. When the chart was prepared today, the waiting became 18. What kind of reservation system is this?” wrote Jha on X.

He expressed his concerns directly to Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, asking, “Will you understand what will happen if a Bihari is not able to come home on the occasion of Chhath?” In the screenshots he shared, he noted that when he booked the ticket from New Delhi to Darbhanga on the Swatantrata Senani Express, the waiting list was at 124. By September 30, it had decreased to 31. Jha mentioned that on November 2, the waiting on the RAC ticket further dropped to 12. However, when the final chart was prepared, the waiting list unexpectedly increased to 18.

The official Twitter account for rail user support, RailwaySeva, responded to his post, saying, “The concerned authorities are being informed.” They later updated him that his complaint had been registered on RailMadad and provided a complaint number via SMS.

In a follow-up, Jha mentioned that a Railways official contacted him and advised the traveler to be prepared for the journey. He also expressed his gratitude towards Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the attention to his issue.
