The Mumbai–Pune Expressway witnessed severe traffic congestion again on Saturday morning (October 19), with vehicles lined up from the Amrutanjan Bridge to the Khopoli exit. Thousands of people heading home for Diwali or on weekend trips have been stranded for hours due to the massive jam.

The situation has been the same for the past two days, with long queues of vehicles seen between the Amrutanjan Bridge and Khopoli on both October 17 and 18. Today too, traffic has remained heavy since early morning, extending from Khopoli exit all the way to the Khandala Ghat section.

Traffic Updates

Motorists traveling from Mumbai to Pune are advised to check traffic updates before starting their journey. The expressway remains heavily congested, with vehicle movement slowed to a crawl. The surge in cars and tourist vehicles has disrupted normal traffic flow since morning.

Reckless overtaking and lane discipline violations have worsened the situation. Highway traffic police are conducting traffic blocks near Khandala to manage and ease the flow of vehicles.

Commuters Frustrated

People traveling home for Diwali are expressing strong frustration as they remain stuck for hours in traffic. Many who planned to spend festive time with their families are now wasting valuable hours on the road.

Travelers have questioned why no prior arrangements were made to handle the predictable festive rush. Despite restrictions on heavy vehicles during the day, many large trucks were seen on the expressway, further adding to the congestion.

The traffic chaos has caused major inconvenience to daily commuters, tourists, and long-distance travelers alike — turning what should have been a joyful festive journey into a test of patience.
