The Mazi Ladki Bahin Yojana has emerged as a game-changer in Maharashtra politics, as reflected in the recent assembly election results. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde confirmed that the financial assistance provided under the scheme would increase from ₹1,500 to ₹2,100 per month.

The scheme was introduced by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar during the monsoon session of the assembly in July 2024. It was swiftly implemented, offering eligible women ₹1,500 per month. By the time of the elections, five installments (₹7,500) had been credited to beneficiaries’ accounts.

During the campaign, the Mahayuti alliance, which includes Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction, promised to increase the monthly aid to ₹2,100 if re-elected. The Mahayuti secured a thumping majority in the assembly elections, winning 235 out of 288 seats. Following the victory, the focus has shifted to the sixth installment of the scheme. Beneficiaries are eagerly awaiting clarity on whether the next payment will be ₹1,500 or the revised amount of ₹2,100.

Shinde thanked voters for their overwhelming support stating, “The people gave us more than a majority; they gave us a thumping mandate. We have delivered on our promises, and we will continue to do so.”

The revised monthly aid is expected to roll out soon, strengthening the government’s commitment to women’s welfare in Maharashtra.
