Medical Representatives Banned from Meeting Doctors in Central Government Hospitals to Uphold Ethics, Protect Patients
New Delhi: In a move aimed at safeguarding patient interests and reinforcing ethical medical practices, the central government has imposed a ban on medical representatives from meeting doctors within the premises of central government hospitals.
The decision, issued through an official directive, seeks to eliminate any undue influence on prescribing practices and to ensure that doctors focus solely on patient care without external commercial pressure. Authorities emphasized that the step was necessary to maintain transparency and integrity in the healthcare system.
The order applies to all central government-run hospitals across the country. It prohibits pharmaceutical representatives from engaging with doctors during hospital hours or within hospital premises.
Officials noted that while pharmaceutical promotion plays a role in informing practitioners about new drugs, such interactions must not interfere with clinical duties or compromise patient welfare.
Hospital administrations have been instructed to enforce the directive strictly, and any violations may lead to further action.
