After cutting 11,000 jobs in 2022 and another 10,000 in 2023, Meta is now implementing another round of layoffs. This time, however, the scale is much smaller. The company has begun to reduce staff across various teams, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Threads, and others.

A Meta employee named Jane Manchun Wong shared on Threads that she had been laid off. She expressed, “I’m still trying to process this, but I’ve been informed that my position at Meta has been affected. I want to thank everyone, especially my teammates from Threads and Instagram, for this incredible journey at Meta. If anyone is interested in collaborating, especially in software or security engineering, please feel free to reach out to me via my email, LinkedIn, or the contact details on my personal website.”

In a statement, a spokesperson for Meta confirmed the layoffs. Dave Arnold, the spokesperson, stated, “Today, a few teams at Meta are making changes to ensure resources are aligned with their long-term strategic goals and location strategy.”

He added that the restructuring involves relocating some teams and assigning employees to different roles. “In situations like this when a role is eliminated, we work hard to find other opportunities for impacted employees,” he mentioned. However, the exact number of employees laid off remains unclear, as Meta has not disclosed that information. Back in March 2023, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg indicated that the company aims to operate more efficiently regarding staffing. “A leaner organization will execute its highest priorities faster,” he wrote. “People will be more productive, and their work will be more fun and fulfilling.”
