MP Shrirang Barne Demands Third and Fourth Railway Lines From Karjat To Lonavala And Lonavala To Pune
Panvel is set to have the country’s largest airport, prompting MP Shrirang Barne from Maval to demand the construction of third and fourth railway lines between Karjat and Lonavala and between Lonavala and Pune. He raised this request in the Lok Sabha, emphasizing that these new tracks would enable faster train services from Panvel to Pune.
Barne highlighted that the Pune-Lonavala third and fourth lines have been delayed due to land acquisition issues. He urged the government to expedite the process, as this corridor is crucial for high passenger traffic between Mumbai and Pune.
Additionally, he requested the reinstatement of the 1:30 PM local train from Lonavala to Pune, which was discontinued during the COVID-19 pandemic, causing difficulties for workers, women, and students.
Barne noted that the Union Budget has allocated ₹2.52 lakh crore for railway modernization, with Maharashtra receiving ₹23,778 crore for railway development. He stressed the need to include Karjat and Neral railway stations under the Amrit Bharat scheme and called for increasing the frequency of the Matheran toy train, which currently takes longer than before.
Barne also urged authorities to improve passenger amenities at stations built by CIDCO between Panvel and Mumbai, ensure proper facilities at railway stations, and restore concessions for senior citizens.
