MSRTC Deploys 200 Additional Daily Buses Between Mumbai And Pune After Train Cancellations
Mumbai/Pune, July 12: In a major relief for commuters affected by the disruption of rail services between Mumbai and Pune, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will operate 200 additional bus trips daily on the route starting Sunday. The decision comes after more than 30 trains were cancelled due to landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in the Lonavala–Khandala ghat section.
Heavy rains over the past week caused multiple landslides, disrupting train operations on the busy Mumbai–Pune railway corridor and leading to the cancellation of several express services until restoration work is completed.
Announcing the move, Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said the additional bus services have been introduced to minimise inconvenience to passengers and ensure uninterrupted travel between the two cities.
Under the special arrangement, MSRTC will continue operating its scheduled 312 e-Shivneri premium bus services, while adding 200 extra ordinary bus trips every day on the Mumbai–Pune route. The initiative aims to provide commuters with a safe, reliable and faster alternative to the disrupted railway services.
The minister also said that all concerned bus depots and regional offices have been instructed to deploy more buses if passenger demand increases. MSRTC officials will continuously monitor the situation to ensure that no passenger faces difficulty due to the shortage of transport services.
“Soon after the railway disruption, MSRTC mobilised its resources to ensure that passengers continue to travel without inconvenience. Passenger safety, convenience and timely service remain our highest priorities, and additional buses will be deployed whenever required,” Sarnaik said.
