A 45-year-old teacher with Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) status was detained at Mumbai’s international airport for attempting to exit the premises after using a cancelled ticket. The accused, Terence Saldanha, resides in the USA and was visiting relatives in Kalina.

According to Sahar police, Saldanha entered the airport on Sunday using a Mumbai-to-Paris ticket, which had been cancelled on November 21. He showed the ticket on his mobile phone to gain entry through Gate 7. However, he did not board the flight.

Air France staff noticed the discrepancy and alerted the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). When questioned, Saldanha admitted to using the cancelled ticket to access the airport to bid farewell to his girlfriend, Mariana Andrade, who departed for the USA early Sunday.

Security personnel grew suspicious when Saldanha tried to leave the airport after claiming his flight had been cancelled. A sub-inspector escorted him to senior officers, where he confessed his intentions.

Police have charged Saldanha with cheating and forgery. An officer from the Sahar police station stated, “He deliberately used the cancelled ticket to gain entry. His real purpose was to see off his girlfriend.”

Saldanha now faces legal consequences for his deceptive actions. The incident highlights the strict security measures enforced at airports to prevent unauthorized access.
