Mumbai: BJP’s Parag Shah Becomes Maharashtra’s Wealthiest Candidate With Rs 3300 Crore Worth Assets
BJP’s Parag Shah, contesting from the Ghatkopar East constituency in Maharashtra’s upcoming assembly election, has emerged as the wealthiest candidate with declared assets surpassing ₹3,300 crore. According to a report by India Today, Shah’s assets have grown by an astonishing 575% over the past five years.
In his election affidavit, Shah disclosed moveable assets worth ₹3,315.52 crore and immovable assets totaling ₹67.53 crore. Back in the 2019 elections, his assets were valued at ₹550.62 crore, marking a substantial increase.
Shah, a sitting MLA, has a background in real estate. He founded Man Infraconstruction Ltd in 2002 and became a municipal councillor for Ghatkopar East in 2017 on a BJP ticket. In 2019, he won the assembly seat by over 53,000 votes.
Ghatkopar East has traditionally been a BJP stronghold, with significant support from the Gujarati-speaking population in areas like Ninety Feet Road, Tilak Road, and Garodia Nagar. There is also a sizeable Marathi-speaking population in parts of Pant Nagar, Naidu Nagar, and Ramabai Colony.
Despite BJP’s continued dominance, challenges such as illegal encroachments and poor infrastructure persist in the area. Shah has highlighted the rehabilitation of over 18,000 slum dwellers as a major achievement from his tenure. However, in this election, he is expected to face tough competition from Rakhee Jadhav, an NCP (SP) candidate.
Jadhav has criticized the BJP, alleging that the party has not brought real development to the area and has ignored issues like traffic. She expressed confidence in winning the seat, stating that her team is “committed to bringing genuine development to the ward.”
