Mumbai Indians IPL 2025 Retentions: Full List of Players Retained and Released
Mumbai, October 31, 2024: Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have officially announced their list of retained players for the IPL 2025 mega auction. Jasprit Bumrah leads the retentions with the highest price, while star players Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav also command top retention fees. Despite an underwhelming season in IPL 2024, MI has chosen to retain Hardik Pandya as team captain, reaffirming their trust in his leadership over veterans Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav.
Tilak Varma, retained for ₹8 crore, joins the top lineup as MI’s fifth capped player, meaning uncapped players were left out of this year’s retention. This decision gives MI one Right to Match (RTM) card in the upcoming auction.
A major topic of interest in MI’s retention strategy was balancing their budget to retain senior players Bumrah, Pandya, Rohit, and Suryakumar. Rohit Sharma, formerly the team’s highest-paid player, now stands as MI’s fourth-highest retention, reflecting a revised pay structure.
Long-time wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, a key player since 2018, was not retained, marking the end of his journey with MI after contributing to IPL victories in 2019 and 2020. Key overseas players, including Australia’s Tim David and South Africa’s Dewald Brevis and Gerald Coetzee, were also released. Additionally, uncapped Indian talents Nehal Wadhera, Naman Dhir, and Anshul Kamboj have been let go.
