Mumbai Man Held for Fraudulently Extracting ₹35.25 Lakh from Pune Woman Under Marriage Pretense

The Baner police have apprehended a man from Mumbai for allegedly defrauding a 25-year-old computer engineer from Pune of ₹35.25 lakh under the pretext of marriage.
The suspect, identified as Saish Vinod Jadhav (25), lives in Saibaba Nagar, Shell Colony Road, Chembur, Mumbai.
According to the police, the victim, a 29-year-old woman residing in a hostel in Baner and working at an IT company on Balewadi High Street, registered on a matrimonial site in 2023.
Jadhav contacted her through the platform, expressing a strong interest in marrying her. In May 2023, he visited Baner to meet her in person for the first time, and they had lunch at a local restaurant. He later visited her again and provided false information about his family.
As time went on, Jadhav created a series of fake stories to manipulate her financially. He claimed that a friend had deceived him and that he would be jailed if he didn’t repay a debt. To build her trust, he promised they would be marrying soon.
The woman was convinced and sent large sums of money online. She even secured a loan from a private financial institution to fulfill his ongoing financial demands. Over the course of one and a half years, he borrowed a total of ₹35.25 lakh from her on various occasions.
When she began to insist on marriage, he started giving her vague and evasive answers. Realizing that she had been deceived, she went to the Baner police to file a complaint. After an investigation, the police located Jadhav and arrested him.
Police are further investigating the case.
