Mercury Hits 40°C In Pune: Koregaon Park And Lohegaon Sizzle At 40.2 Deg C
Despite mid-February, Maharashtra is experiencing an unusual rise in temperatures, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue an advisory. Most districts have recorded temperatures above 35°C, with daytime heat expected to intensify further. While early mornings remain slightly cool, the mercury is steadily climbing across the state.
Currently, both coastal and interior regions, including the Konkan belt, are witnessing a continuous temperature increase. The difference between maximum and minimum temperatures ranges from 15 to 23°C. The weather department predicts this trend will persist for the next 48 hours, with temperatures in Vidarbha and Central Maharashtra expected to rise by 2 to 3°C.
Mumbai Braces for Scorching Summer
Mumbai’s maximum temperature has already hit 36°C, with further increases anticipated from March to May. The city and its suburbs are experiencing rising heat levels, worsened by rapid urbanization and concrete infrastructure, making the weather even more unbearable.
Thunderstorms Expected in Northern India
Weather fluctuations are affecting not just Maharashtra but also other parts of the country. Northern states are seeing cooler mornings and nights, but afternoons remain extremely warm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for Uttar Pradesh, while Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh are expected to receive light rainfall and snowfall between February 17 and February 22.
