Pune, February 17 – Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has fallen ill, leading to the cancellation of all his scheduled programs for the day. While details about his health condition remain undisclosed, Pawar was expected to attend multiple events in Pune today.

Speaking to the media in Pune, Pawar addressed public concerns about GBS and its alleged link to poultry farming. He reassured citizens that there is no need to cull chickens and emphasized that proper cooking eliminates health risks.

Maharashtra has reported the highest number of GBS cases in recent weeks, with a significant outbreak noted in the Khadakwasla Dam area of Pune. While some linked the outbreak to water contamination, others speculated that it could be due to the consumption of contaminated chicken.

No Need to Cull Chickens, Says Pawar

Following a detailed review, Pawar clarified that culling poultry is unnecessary. He advised people to thoroughly cook their food, especially chicken, to minimize health risks.

Medical experts have pointed out that GBS infection can spread through contaminated food and water, particularly from the Campylobacter jejuni bacteria found in undercooked chicken.

“The medical community recommends proper cooking to eliminate risks. The GBS situation is under control, and there is no need to panic or cull poultry,” Pawar stated.

208 GBS Cases Reported in Maharashtra

According to health officials, a new case of GBS was reported on Saturday, bringing the total number of suspected and confirmed cases in Maharashtra to 208. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
