Pune News: Human Remains Found In Open At Rahatbaug Burial Ground In Kondhwa; Residents Demand Probe
Pune, June 15, 2026: Serious allegations have surfaced regarding the handling of human remains at the Rahat Bagh Cemetery in Kausarbaug, Kondhwa Khurd, with local residents claiming that the dignity of the deceased is being compromised during the cemetery’s grave rotation process.
According to the allegations, human bones and remnants of burial shrouds (kafan) from old graves were found discarded in open areas within the cemetery premises. The claims have sparked outrage among residents after photographs purportedly showing the remains surfaced and began circulating.
Locals allege that instead of being reburied with due religious rites and respect, bones recovered from old graves were left unattended in the open. Fragments of burial shrouds, which hold religious significance, were also allegedly discarded without proper handling.
Another serious concern raised by residents relates to the alleged selective implementation of the grave rotation process. Some locals claim that the action is primarily being carried out on simple graves belonging to economically weaker families, while more expensive marble-clad graves remain untouched.
The allegations have triggered discussions about possible discrimination in the management of the cemetery and have prompted calls for a thorough inquiry into the matter. Residents are demanding that the cemetery administration clarify the procedures being followed and ensure that all human remains are treated with dignity and in accordance with religious customs.
The claims have not yet been independently verified, and no official statement from the cemetery management has been issued regarding the allegations. Residents have urged the concerned authorities to investigate the matter and take appropriate action if any violations are found.
