The completion of the missing link project on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway has been delayed once again, with the new deadline now set for August 2025. The project, officially known as the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway (YCEW), was initially scheduled for completion in March 2024, later revised to January 2025, and now further extended.
According to a statement in TOI, Anilkumar Gaikwad, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) 92% of the project has been completed. “We have completed 12.4 kilometers of the 13-kilometer stretch. The remaining work is focused on the cable-stayed bridge near Tiger Valley in Lonavala, which involves constructing four pylons, each 180 meters tall. The superstructure is almost complete, and we are proceeding cautiously,” Gaikwad stated after a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The Rs 6,695 crore project aims to significantly enhance connectivity. Once operational, it will reduce the journey between Khopoli and Sinhgad Institute by over six kilometers, saving motorists approximately 25 minutes compared to the existing ghat section route.
