Mumbai–Pune Missing Link Entry Point Debris Clearance Underway, Structural Safety Intact
Mumbai, July 6, 2026: Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Shivendra Raje Bhosale on Monday visited the site of a landslide near the entry point of the Mumbai–Pune Missing Link project and conducted a detailed on-ground inspection of the situation. Senior officials from the MSRDC, police administration, and other concerned departments were present during the visit.
After reviewing the site, the minister said that continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days led to a sudden change in water flow, resulting in a large amount of soil and rocks sliding down the slope. He clarified that there has been no damage to the tunnel structure of the Missing Link project. However, a slab installed for aesthetic purposes at the entry point, along with a portion of the protective retaining wall, has collapsed.

The minister noted that due to ongoing heavy rainfall and dense fog, it has not been possible to accurately assess the condition of the hillside at present. He said that a detailed technical inspection by experts will be carried out once the rains subside. The reasons behind the change in water flow and long-term preventive measures to avoid such incidents in the future will be decided after the assessment.
Meanwhile, clearance work to remove debris, including the fallen slab from the roadway, is underway on a war footing, and authorities have been instructed to complete the work at the earliest.
Bhosale added that a final decision on reopening the route for traffic will be taken only after a joint safety inspection by the police administration and MSRDC. He emphasized that public safety will remain the top priority in all decisions going forward.
