A scheduled Air Mauritius flight, MK749, from Mumbai to Mauritius turned into a nightmare for passengers onboard including several infants and a 78-year-old passenger as they developed breathing problems due to a malfunction in the plane’s engine.
The distressing incident unfolded as passengers were confined inside the aircraft for five hours without air conditioning, resulting in severe breathing problems and discomfort which also led to the cancellation of the flight.
The flight, originally set to depart at 4:30 am, faced engine issues, compelling passengers to remain on board. The lack of air conditioning during this period led to worsening health conditions for those on the plane.
Passengers, including several infants, reported respiratory difficulties due to the prolonged discomfort caused by the malfunctioning air conditioning systems.
According to reports, passengers were initially scheduled to depart on time but were forced to endure the malfunction-related inconvenience.
The prolonged exposure to unfavourable conditions raised concerns about the well-being of those on board. Passengers were allegedly denied permission to disembark during the ordeal.
As the health of passengers, particularly infants, deteriorated during the five-hour AC shutdown, the airline eventually decided to cancel the flight. Further details on how the passengers were accommodated and the steps taken by the airline to address the situation are awaited.
The airline, Air Mauritius, is anticipated to release an official statement addressing the incident. Passengers have expressed their grievances over the lack of proper facilities and information during the distressing episode.
