With the upcoming state elections, the Eknath Shinde government has made a significant decision regarding toll collection in Mumbai. The state government has announced a toll exemption at all five toll plazas in Mumbai, providing much-needed relief to Mumbaikars. This decision will be implemented starting from 12:00 am.

However, it’s important to note that the exemption will only apply to vehicles with white number plates, which indicate private vehicles. This means that while private vehicles will enjoy toll-free access, commercial and tourist vehicles will still have to pay the toll.

The decision is expected to benefit over 80,000 vehicles daily. Vehicles with white number plates are typically privately owned, while those with yellow number plates are used for commercial purposes like buses, taxis, cabs, auto-rickshaws, and goods carriers.

Additionally, the article also highlights the use of green number plates, which are assigned to electric vehicles. Private electric vehicles have green plates with white numbers, while commercial electric vehicles have green plates with yellow numbers.

This move is seen as a major step in reducing the financial burden on Mumbai’s private vehicle owners, especially during the election season. However, the exclusion of commercial and tourist vehicles from this exemption has sparked mixed reactions.

The toll exemption will come into effect from midnight and is expected to have a notable impact on traffic flow and travel costs in the city.
