Mumbaikars Be On Alert As 5-Metre High Tide Expected For 'These' Three Days; Avoid Going to Beaches
BMC urges citizens to stay away from beaches as waves cross the 4.5-metre danger mark; Special caution advised for visitors on Mahaparinirvana Day.
Mumbai will witness three consecutive days of high tide between December 4 and 7, with waves rising above the 4.5-metre danger level, prompting the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to issue a safety advisory. The Emergency Management Department has released a detailed schedule of tide timings and wave heights and has appealed to citizens to avoid beaches during this period.
According to the forecast, the highest waves will be seen on December 6, when the tide is expected to reach 5.03 metres shortly after midnight. Tide levels above 4.5 metres are considered dangerous, as strong surges and rapid water rise can create unsafe conditions for those near the coastline.
The BMC has asked citizens to follow Mumbai Police safety instructions and refrain from entering the water or gathering along promenades during tide hours. A special advisory has also been issued for followers visiting Chaityabhoomi and Shivaji Park on Mahaparinirvana Day, urging them to take all precautions while moving near the seafront.
The tide schedule released by the Emergency Management Department is as follows:
• December 4, 2025 – 11:52 pm – 4.96 metres
• December 5, 2025 – 11:30 am – 4.14 metres
• December 6, 2025 – 12:39 am – 5.03 metres
• December 6, 2025 – 12:20 pm – 4.17 metres
• December 7, 2025 – 1:27 am – 5.01 metres
• December 7, 2025 – 1:10 pm – 4.15 metres
Officials explained that water levels rise sharply during high tide and waves can hit forcefully without warning. Citizens have been advised to stay away from beaches, avoid walking on wet rocks, and keep children and senior citizens at a safe distance from the shoreline until tide levels return to normal.
With high waves expected for three days, authorities have called for strict caution to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
