The highly anticipated horror-comedy “Munjya” is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, delighting fans of the Maddock Horror Universe. Following its television premiere on Star Gold, the film is now accessible to a wider audience via OTT. This release mirrors the approach taken by Kabir Khan’s 2021 film “83,” which also premiered on TV before making its OTT debut on Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar. “Munjya” has emerged as one of the most popular films of 2024, and its arrival on streaming platforms is perfectly timed to coincide with the success of “Stree 2,” which continues to perform strongly at the box office.

Meet the Talented Cast and Crew of Munjya

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, “Munjya” is a 2024 comedy-horror film featuring a stellar cast including Sharvari, Abhay Verma, Sathyaraj, and Mona Singh. Produced by Amar Kaushik and Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner, this film is the fourth installment in the Maddock Supernatural Universe, which draws inspiration from Indian mythology and folklore. The plot revolves around Bittu (played by Abhay Verma), who encounters the vengeful spirit of a ghost in Chetukwadi. With the ghost, Munjya, awakened and ready for marriage, the story takes viewers on a thrilling and frightening journey.

Munjya’s Impressive Box Office Performance

Released worldwide in theatres on June 7, 2024, “Munjya” received rave reviews from critics and quickly became a box office sensation. The film, produced on a modest budget of ₹30 crore, managed to gross ₹132 crore globally, making it the sixth highest-grossing Hindi film of the year.

Director Aditya Sarpotdar expressed his excitement about the film’s OTT release, noting his anticipation of how a broader audience will receive “Munjya” now that it is available for streaming. Despite its ambitious concept and a unique 3D-CGI character, the film’s small cast and compelling narrative resonated with viewers. Sarpotdar believes that “Munjya” will continue to captivate audiences of all ages, whether watched in theatres or from the comfort of home.
