Nashik: ‘Chaddi Baniyan’ Gang Strikes Again, Steals Gold and Bananas in Malegaon
In a bizarre incident in Malegaon, Nashik, a gang infamously known as the ‘chaddi-baniyan’ gang struck again, stealing gold and bananas. The gang, named after their peculiar attire of vests and underwear, broke into a home and a college late last night. The thieves made off with approximately 70 grams of gold, valued at around Rs 5 lakh, and a stash of bananas. The entire heist was captured on CCTV.
This incident follows a series of similar crimes across the country by groups adopting the same unusual dress code. The gang has become notorious for committing crimes wearing just underwear and occasionally carrying sharp weapons to intimidate their victims. However, it remains unclear if these various groups are connected or if the attire is merely a tactic to confuse authorities.
The robbery in Malegaon comes on the heels of a recent string of thefts by another unusual group, dubbed the ‘gown’ gang. This gang, caught on security cameras dressed in women’s gowns, has been targeting residential areas. Just last week, the ‘gown’ gang was seen armed with weapons, looting several homes and even stealing money from a temple donation box.
These back-to-back incidents have caused panic among the residents of Malegaon, who are now urging the police to take swift action against these gangs.
