NBT Mumbai Office Relocates to Pune Ahead of December 14 Book Festival
The National Book Trust (NBT) of India is relocating its Mumbai office to Pune. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has allotted office space on rent for the same.
BJP leader and MLA Chandrakant Patil announced the move at the inauguration of the Pune Book Festival office and groundbreaking ceremony for exhibition stalls at FC College ground on Thursday.
The Pune Book Festival, organized by NBT, will be held from December 14 to December 22. Following last year’s success, which saw an overwhelming response, the trust expects around 7.5 lakh visitors this year.
Patil highlighted the significance of public participation in the event. “The fair belongs to the people of Pune, not just individuals. This year, we expect the number of stalls to triple from the 200 registered in 2023,” he said.
With Marathi being granted classical language status by the central government, the Pune NBT office will focus on translating Marathi literature into other languages. Patil added that this move will help attract more readers and promote regional literature on a larger scale.
The Pune Book Festival aims to celebrate books and reading culture. It will feature diverse stalls, workshops, and programs to engage readers across all age groups.
The NBT’s shift to Pune is expected to boost the city’s literary scene while providing new opportunities for local writers and publishers. The festival is anticipated to become a major cultural event, reflecting Pune’s rich heritage and love for literature.
