NEET PG 2024: SC dismisses plea to postpone examinations
9 August 2024
The petitioners not only requested to reschedule the exam to a different date and update the exam locations but also asked for the sharing of the normalization formula for the four question paper sets with the candidates. This step aims to remove any chance of unfairness in the evaluation process. The Supreme Court rejected a request to delay the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG). The petition aimed to postpone the NEET PG 2024 exam set for August 11. A panel of three judges, with Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud presiding, was handling the case.
The individuals filing the petition mentioned that numerous NEET PG candidates have been assigned exam centers that are extremely inconvenient for them to access, hence requesting a postponement of the exam.
In response to rejecting the plea, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud remarked, “Your argument is based on perfect solutions, but we are dealing with a multifaceted society.”
Along with pushing back the exam to a different date and changing the exam locations, the people who filed the petition also asked for the sharing of the normalization formula for the four question paper sets with the candidates. This step aims to remove any chance of unfairness in the evaluation process.
After the declaration of the NEET PG cities on July 31, the NBEMS issued an updated set of city slips on August 4.
“After taking into account the feedback regarding the allocation of exam cities, additional exam centers have been included to address the concerns raised. Private centers have been removed to prioritize safety, which might require some students to travel a bit further. While efforts have been made to minimize travel distances, some students may still need to travel 100-150 km, even if the center is within the same state. Your understanding is greatly appreciated, and every attempt has been made to reduce the distance whenever feasible.”
