World Philosophy Day is anĀ international day proclaimed byĀ UNESCOĀ to be celebrated every 3rd Thursday of November which underlines the enduring value of philosophy for the development of human thought, for each culture and for each individual.Ā

New Acropolis Pune branch, a school of philosophy marked this important occasion in Pune on the advent of the festival of Diwali, through a theatrical presentation titled ‘Victory of Light over Darkness’ in the theatre ‘The Baseā€™ in Erandwane.

The theatrical act depicted life of a philosopher and the journey towards inner freedom and adventure.

One of the many impactful dialogues from the protagonist of the act was “Only when there is harmony inside, can you bring harmony outside. Dare to be who you are, when you rise up, you give permission for others to do the same”. The aspiring philosophers troupe ended the act on a higher note by singing a classic from Rumi ā€œCome, come whoever you are ā€“ Wanderer, Worshipper, Lover of leavingā€.

The theatrical act was followed by an address by Shraddha Shetty – Branch Manager of New Acropolis Pune, where she touched upon ideas of Philosophy, Theatre and Diwali.

A few simple philosophical exercises were conducted for the participants  like writing a small poem on their inspiration which few of the participants read out, choosing different emotions while reciting poems etc.

Shraddha mentioned that while World Philosophy Day is an important day to mark importance of philosophy; in New Acropolis, philosophy is a part of everyday life, a living, dynamic force to explore our own human potential that can inspire real-world change.

With an amazing participation of 150+ people on Saturday, 4th November, it was an evening which explored the underlining theme of ‘Philosophy in Action’ hosted by the young members of New Acropolis Pune.
