New Sinhagad Road Flyover Opens, Easing Pune’s Access to Mumbai–Bengaluru Highway
Pune, September 2, 2025: Daily commuters on Sinhagad Road can now breathe a sigh of relief as the much-awaited 2.6 km Sinhagad Road flyover, stretching from Rajaram Bridge to Fun Time Theatre, was officially inaugurated on Monday (September 1).
The flyover, executed by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) at a cost of ₹118.37 crore, is expected to drastically cut travel time and ease traffic congestion on one of Pune’s busiest corridors.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who inaugurated the project’s first and second phases, hailed the development as a Ganesh Chaturthi gift for Punekars. He emphasized that the flyover will not only decongest traffic but also help in reducing air pollution levels along the stretch.
Sinhagad Road serves as a lifeline for thousands of residents from Dhayri, Narhe, Khadakwasla, Vadgaon Budruk, Nanded City, and further towards the Mumbai–Bengaluru National Highway. With over 1.5 lakh vehicles plying daily and road expansion limited due to the Mutha River and adjoining hills, the flyover had long been seen as a critical necessity.
The project, initiated in September 2021 with its foundation stone laid by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, was constructed in three phases. Phase one covered a 520-metre stretch at Rajaram Pool Chowk, phase two built a 2.1 km segment between Vitthalwadi and Fun Time Theatre, while phase three connected Veer Shivaji Kashid Chowk to Prakash Vitthal Inamdar Chowk.
With the completion of the flyover, the earlier 30-minute commute across six traffic junctions has been reduced to just 5–6 minutes. Additional works include upgraded three-lane roads beneath the structure, pedestrian pavements, parking facilities, and beautification drives, which will be maintained under CSR initiatives for the next five years.
The flyover is expected to transform connectivity along Sinhagad Road, offering smoother travel and improved quality of life for lakhs of daily commuters.
