PUNE: For several years, the NIBM Road Residents Forum (NRRF) has been actively engaged in environmental protection and other civic issues in and around the NIBM Road, Salunke Vihar, and Wanowrie.

The NRRF members have organized various campaigns, including tree plantation, cleaning of plastic waste from forest areas, and beautification of road walls through Warli painting. Additionally, the NRRF has taken up civic issues such as water supply shortages and road safety with the relevant authorities.

On September 14th, an awareness program on ‘Plastic Chodo, Kagaz se nata jodo’ was jointly organized by the NRRF and RIMS school. Plastic waste, such as plastic bottles and polythene carry bags, causes pollution and harms the environment.

Sushama Joshi, Chairperson of the NRRF, emphasized the need to use biodegradable materials such as cloth or paper bags instead of plastic bags. She urged everyone to carry their own bags while going out of the house. During the event, the students of RIMS school presented a nukad natak, guided by Shalinee Saraf, Principal of RIMS School.

The street play, titled ‘Plastic Chodo Kagaz se Nata Jodo,’ was well-received by the spectators and highlighted the harmful effects of plastic bags. To reinforce this message, the children distributed handmade paper bags to shops on NIBM Road.
