Over 35,000 people affected with eye diseases in Pune District

Pune: In a shocking revelation it has come to fore that 35,356 eye patients have been detected in the entire Pune district.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, Dr Suryakant Deokar, Assistant Health and Immunization Officer, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) said, “In a municipal or private school, on an average, there are 40 to 50 students in a class. Therefore, the municipal health department has focused more on schools. Eye-to-eye contact, playing together, using each other’s things are common among school students. As a result, special precautions must be taken to avoid any kind of contact.”
Dr Deokar has appealed to all the parents that, in case any symptom of eye diseases is detected in the child, parents must immediately take him/her to the nearest PMC hospital where they will be given free eye drops & medical treatment.
As per information, out of 35,356 eye patients, 23, 809 patients are from Pune rural areas, while in Pune city 5,935 citizens have been diagnosed & in Pimpri Chinchwad, 5,612, citizens have been diagnosed with eye diseases.
The wave of eye diseases has grappled the entire Pune district in recent times. Hence, the PMC has directed Punekars to keep implementing the following precautionary measures to combat eye diseases:
· Maintaining personal hygiene.
· Wash hands frequently.
· Avoid touching the eyes frequently.
· Avoid contact with others.
· Keeping the premises clean.
