Four members of a family, including two minors, were injured in an explosion while attempting to alter expiry dates on perfume bottles in Palghar district.  

The incident occurred late Thursday night in Room No. 112 of Roshni Apartment, Nalla Sopara, on the outskirts of Mumbai, an official said.  

The injured have been identified as Mahavir Vadar (41), Sunita Vadar (38), Kumar Harshvardhan Vadar (9), and Kumari Harshada Vadar (14).  

According to the official, the family was allegedly involved in tampering with expiry dates on perfume bottles, a process suspected to involve flammable substances. The explosion caused injuries to all four.

Kumar Harshvardhan is being treated at Life Care Hospital in Nalasopara. The other three victims are receiving care at Oscar Hospital, also in the same area.  

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the explosion and the nature of the tampering activity.  

Further details on the family’s involvement in the activity and the materials used are awaited. The police have yet to confirm if any legal action will be taken.  

This unfortunate incident has raised concerns about the dangers of handling flammable substances without proper precautions.  

No damage to neighboring flats has been reported so far. Residents in the area expressed shock over the incident and called for increased awareness about safety when dealing with potentially hazardous materials.
