PCMC Cracks Down On Tax Defaulters, Seals Over 1,000 Properties

Tax Burden on Defaulters' Share Certificates; Ineligible for Society Elections
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has taken stern action against tax defaulters, sealing over 1,000 properties with pending tax dues exceeding ₹3-5 lakh. The civic body has identified 3,500 properties with collective arrears of ₹362 crore.
Avinash Shinde, Deputy Municipal Commissioner and head of PCMC’s tax department while communicating with media said that, most of these properties are rented out, and owners have not paid taxes for over four years. “A majority of these residential properties are rented out by the owners. They have not paid tax for over four years. Last year, we only cut water supply to these properties due to tenants, but this time we’ll seal them and request MSEDCL to cut power,” Shinde added.
The PCMC has begun auctioning 43 previously sealed properties whose owners failed to pay dues despite repeated notices. Out of over 6.3 lakh properties registered with PCMC, officials have collected ₹564 crore in property tax so far this financial year (2024-25).
The civic body aims to bridge the gap in property tax collection, which is ₹70 crore lower than last year’s record ₹977 crore. To boost collections, officials have been directed to expedite action against defaulters. Additionally, PCMC is working to bring 2.51 lakh unregistered properties under the tax ambit.
