Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has terminated the services of Assistant Municipal Commissioner Sriniwas Dangat for violating the civic body’s two-child policy. The decision was made under the Maharashtra Civil Services (Declaration of a Small Family) Rules, 2005. Dangat, who has served PCMC since 1989, was found to have three children, which is against the norms. Despite Dangat informing the civic body about his family and submitting the birth certificate of his third child born in 2011, PCMC officials claim he failed to submit the required affidavit declaring his family size. According to Sunil Joshi, Assistant Municipal Commissioner (Administration), Dangat was repeatedly reminded to provide the necessary information but did not comply.

The inquiry, conducted in 2022, found that Dangat had not submitted the declaration, a requirement for employees hired post-2005. Joshi confirmed that employees with three children before 2005 would not face termination under these rules.

Dangat, who is due to retire in February, denies any wrongdoing and intends to challenge the termination in the Bombay High Court. He claims that his family information was already recorded in his Service Rule Book and denies receiving reminders to submit the affidavit. Dangat also suggested that the complaint against him was filed by a colleague after a dispute over office punctuality.
