The environment department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has taken decisive action against eleven ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants operating without the necessary permissions from the civic body and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB). These unauthorized plants, located in Tathawade, Punawale, Kiwale, and Moshi within the PCMC jurisdiction, were found to be causing air and noise pollution, prompting swift closure by the authorities.

Following numerous complaints from concerned citizens, PCMC officials investigated the matter and discovered that these RMC plants had been operating clandestinely without any compliance with pollution regulations. The absence of necessary permits from both PCMC and MPCB raised serious concerns about environmental hazards and public health risks posed by these illegal operations.

Sanjay Kulkarni, head of the Environment Department at PCMC, highlighted the gross violations of pollution norms by these unauthorized plants. He emphasized the lack of measures taken by the plant owners to mitigate air and noise pollution, which adversely affected the health and well-being of nearby residents. Immediate closure notices were issued, and the plants were shut down to prevent further environmental degradation.

PCMC authorities have notified MPCB about the illegal operations of these RMC plants and are taking stringent action under the provisions of Section 376 A of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act 1949. The closure of these plants will remain in effect until they comply with environmental regulations and obtain the necessary permissions from the relevant authorities.

Ravindra Andhale, regional officer of MPCB for the Pune region, emphasized the ongoing crackdown on illegal RMC plants and stone crushing plants (SCP) by the pollution control board. He affirmed that the drive against such unauthorized operations is underway, with multiple actions taken against violators to ensure strict adherence to pollution control norms and safeguard public health and the environment.
