Pimpri, March 29, 2026: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi has issued a stern warning to developers, stating that strict legal action will be taken against those who fail to fulfil their commitment of providing water supply to flat owners as assured through written undertakings.

The Commissioner emphasized that developers who have submitted written guarantees to provide water supply before handing over possession of flats must strictly adhere to their obligations. Any negligence or attempt to shift the financial burden of water supply onto housing societies will invite stringent action from the municipal corporation.

He was speaking during a recent meeting of a committee constituted in connection with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Bombay High Court dated April 10, 2023, regarding water supply issues.

The meeting was chaired by Pune Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar and attended by senior officials, including Additional Commissioner Vikrant Bagade, Joint City Engineer Ajay Suryavanshi, Executive Engineer Mahesh Baride, along with officials from Pune Municipal Corporation and PMRDA.

During the meeting, a detailed review was conducted of the water shortage issues faced by various housing societies in Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune. It was noted that due to incomplete works on key water supply projects such as the Bhama Askhed and Andra schemes, it is currently not possible to ensure 100% water supply across all areas.

Dr. Pulkundwar reiterated that developers must strictly comply with written assurances given prior to handing over flats, especially regarding water supply at their own cost. In cases where developers fail to meet these obligations or transfer the financial burden to residents, the respective municipal bodies have been directed to initiate legal action.

The meeting also discussed measures to improve transparency, including publishing all approved No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and developer-submitted undertakings on the municipal corporation’s official website. This will enable citizens to verify whether their housing society is covered under specific water supply schemes.

“If residents in housing societies within Pimpri Chinchwad face water supply issues, they should register complaints with the municipal water supply department. Necessary action will be taken to protect citizens’ interests and ensure transparency and accountability in the system. Until the Bhama Askhed project becomes fully operational, the responsibility of water supply will remain with the concerned developers.”
