Pimpri Chinchwad Fire Brigade Steps Up With Intensive Training For 220 Firefighters
Pimpri, July 11, 2025: To tackle natural and man-made disasters in Pimpri Chinchwad city, the Fire Brigade has embarked on a journey towards modernisation. Aiming to equip personnel with updated technical knowledge, practical skills, and the ability to handle emergencies like sudden disasters, floods caused by heavy rains, collapse of old and dilapidated buildings, and road accidents, the department has planned a series of training programs. In a significant initiative, the Fire Department of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to conduct specialized rescue training programs for a total of 220 officers and firefighters, including both senior and newly appointed staff.
Under this initiative, 70 experienced officers and 150 newly recruited personnel from the Fire Department will participate. A total of 10 specialized training courses have been designed for these staff members. These courses have been crafted keeping in mind the age group, responsibilities, and physical capacities of the personnel. The programs cater to employees aged between 18 to 55 years, with the primary objective of developing their modern technical skills.
These training sessions will prepare firefighters to face modern challenges, use tree cutters effectively, rescue citizens trapped in water, locate missing persons using drones, and handle natural and man-made disasters efficiently. They will also include practical drills on mental preparedness, teamwork, and handling advanced equipment. Additionally, the modules cover first aid, flood and boat rescue operations, equipment maintenance, high-rise and confined-space rescue techniques, deep water diving, drone handling operations, and K9 dog handling, among various other critical skills.
“As the city grows, so do the possibilities and nature of disasters. Therefore, our firefighters need to be capable of responding promptly, effectively, and reliably not only to fires but to any kind of disaster. This training will take their courage, skills, and preparedness to the next level.”
– Shekhar Singh, Commissioner and Administrator, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation
“The Fire Brigade should not remain just a reactive mechanism but evolve into a technically advanced and well-trained team. This initiative will enhance not only the physical but also the mental and technical confidence of our personnel.”
– Pradeep Jambhale Patil, Additional Commissioner, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation
“Striking the right balance between past experience and new technology is the need of the hour. With these training programs, our staff will not only learn to use new equipment but also play an effective role in disaster management as a cohesive team.”
