In a special meeting held today, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Administrator Shekhar Singh granted approval to several proposals, including the city’s contribution towards the Pimpri to Nigdi Metro Line project (Corridor A).

The meeting took place in the late Mayor Madhukarrao Pawale Hall at the PCMC headquarters in Pimpri, where various subjects requiring the approval of the Municipal Corporation and Standing Committee were presented to Singh. The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioners Pradeep Jambhale Patil, Vijaykumar Khorate, Chandrakant Indalkar, along with department heads and officials.

The Government of India has approved the allocation of funds for the 4.41 km extension of Pune Metro Phase 1 from PCMC to Nigdi. The project, to be executed by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited, has already received central government grants. As of now, the Geo-Technical Investigation (GeoTechnical Investigation) work by Maha Metro is nearly complete, and foundational work has begun at the Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Bus Terminal and Khandoba Mal Chowk. For the fiscal year 2023-24, Maha Metro had requested ₹86.61 crores from PCMC. In response, the municipal budget for 2024-25 includes a provision of ₹50 crores, with Singh approving the release of ₹49 crores from the available funds to Maha Metro.
