Residents of Sopanbaug, Udaybaug, BT Kawade Road, and Hadapsar are raising their voices once again over the persistent foul odour and polluted air from the PMC waste management and composting plant at B. Takar Path, Hadapsar. The noxious fumes emanating daily from the plant are making it unbearable for the residents, who are unable to open their windows or breathe freely without fear of respiratory distress.

The health impacts are severe, with numerous complaints of respiratory diseases among residents. Senior citizens, young children, and individuals with asthma are particularly vulnerable, often forced to wear masks even at home due to the overwhelming stench. Many fear that long-term exposure to these toxic fumes could lead to serious conditions, including lung cancer.

Despite repeated complaints, including a formal letter submitted to Sandip Kadam, Assistant Commissioner of Solid Waste Management, on May 17, 2024, no action has been taken, and the situation continues to worsen.

The residents are now urging immediate intervention from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). They demand either a permanent solution to the toxic smell or the closure of the plant. They stress that access to clean air is a fundamental human right, one they have been deprived of for too long.

Residents await a prompt resolution to ensure their health and safety.
