City Engineer Makarand Nikam has announced that it is essential for citizens to conduct a structural audit of their buildings within one month to ensure they are safe for habitation. This requirement is for buildings that are 30 years or older, and it is mandatory to have these audits conducted by a licensed construction engineer.
According to state regulations and the Maharashtra Municipal Act Section 265(A), inspections and repairs of old buildings must be completed by licensed construction engineers, who will also provide certification of the building’s structural soundness. This certificate must be renewed every ten years.
For buildings older than 30 years within Pimpri-Chinchwad, owners, heirs, or occupants must obtain a certification from a licensed structural engineer. The engineer must hold a license from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and submit necessary documents along with their application. A processing fee of ₹1,000 will be charged, after which a three-year license will be issued to the engineer.
Engineers must fulfill certain eligibility criteria, including holding a degree in civil engineering from a recognized institution and having at least three years of experience in the field. Those with a post-graduate degree or doctorate in civil engineering may have their experience requirement reduced.
A list of required documents for licensing engineers is available on the PCMC official website and at the City Engineer’s office. Applications must be submitted within one month, and registration will be valid for three years from the date of issuance. The PCMC Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh retains the authority to accept or reject any applications.
