Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation To Make Names of Property Tax Defaulters Public
In a bid to boost tax collection before the end of the financial year, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has announced stringent measures, including publishing the names of big defaulters and initiating property seizures.
With just 38 days left in the fiscal year, the tax collection department is ramping up efforts to recover outstanding dues, totaling Rs 18.5 crores, from defaulting property owners.
The PCMC’s tax collection department has taken unprecedented steps to ensure compliance, such as seizing over 1000 properties and disconnecting tap connections from 151 properties. Additionally, 451 properties have been sealed as part of the enforcement drive.

Furthermore, the municipality has enlisted the help of social media influencers with substantial followings to promote tax compliance through a reel competition. This innovative approach aims to engage citizens and encourage timely tax payments, with rewards for influencers who create compelling content.
To expedite the auction process, a proposal has been submitted to auction 24 seized properties, with a decision expected within a week. Moreover, five government valuers have been appointed to determine the valuation of confiscated properties, signaling a concerted effort to streamline the recovery process.
“A proposal has been presented to the auction committee for the sale of 24 properties, with a decision expected within a week. Additionally, the appointment of five government valuers aims to accelerate the valuation process for confiscated properties, facilitating the expeditious conduct of auctions. With over 1500 properties seized and tap connections cut thus far, defaulters are urged to fulfill their tax obligations promptly to evade severe consequences such as confiscation and auction,” said Pradeep Jambhale-Patil, Additional Commissioner, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
Assistant Commissioner Nilesh Deshmukh emphasized the municipality’s proactive approach, which includes issuing pre-seizure notices and making repeated outreach efforts via telecalling and SMS reminders. Despite these efforts, defaulters who fail to pay taxes face the prospect of further punitive measures, underscoring the PCMC’s commitment to fiscal responsibility.
