Following an incident on Wednesday (21st February) where a passenger who had booked a private app-based cab to travel from the airport was required to pay ₹225 just for pickup at Aero Mall. The passenger had arrived at Pune Airport from Delhi.

As per further information from the X handle of the passenger Chetan A “I arrived in Pune airport and my cab came to pick me up, within 1 minute we got into cab and they charged Rs 225 for that. At least Delhi airport gives 3 minutes to come out.”

Travellers have been complaining about the government’s general mismanagement, lengthy wait times, bottlenecks, and lack of amenities ever since private taxis were permitted to drop and pick up passengers at the Aero Mall parking lot. Aero Mall, a ₹120 crore multi-facility hub that opened in November 2022, has 1,000 parking spaces in addition to retail stores, a food mall, and office space. Pune Airport has become the least passenger-friendly airport with the addition of Aero Mall as the Ola and Uber taxi pickup and drop off location. There are too many people giving conflicting directions, visibility is poor, and incoming and outgoing cars frequently cross paths, creating traffic jams.

A senior Pune Airport official said that Aero Mall does not impose exorbitant parking and taxi halting fees. Normal vehicles pay ₹60 for two hours of parking, while commercial vehicles such as Ola and Uber pay ₹40 for pickup. They will investigate the possibility that there is another problem as to why the cab in question charged such a large sum of money.
