Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporatioo Introduce Climate Budget In Upcoming Fiscal YearÂ
To maintain environmental balance, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is implementing various initiatives. Recognizing the impact of climate change on different city sectors, the corporation has given climate action special importance, announcing the inclusion of a separate climate budget in the upcoming annual budget, as stated by Administrator Shekhar Singh.
In light of global warming, extreme heat waves, and changing weather patterns, there is a pressing need to make comprehensive efforts to mitigate the severity and impact of these issues while preserving environmental balance. Commissioner Shekhar Singh mentioned that PCMC has undertaken several initiatives in this regard. The primary goal of the climate budget is to reduce carbon emissions, impose restrictions on pollution-causing elements, and promote eco-friendly practices to control pollution and improve the local environment. Many countries, as well as national and state-level agencies, have already adopted the concept of a climate budget, and PCMC will incorporate this approach into its next fiscal plan.
While explaining the climate budget concept, PCMC’s Finance Director Praveen Jain noted that guidelines, policies, objectives, procedures, and budget samples were studied in collaboration with private institutions. These recommendations will be integrated into the municipal budget and implemented by the respective departments, with formal approval granted by Administrator Shekhar Singh during a recent meeting.
