Pimpri Chinchwad Police Reach 45,000 Citizens Through Virtual Town Hall In Drug Free Campaign
Pimpri Chinchwad, July 28, 2026: As part of the “Drug-Free Pimpri Chinchwad” campaign, the Pimpri Chinchwad Police organised a large-scale virtual awareness programme on Tuesday to educate citizens about the harmful effects of narcotics and encourage public participation in the fight against drug abuse.
The initiative, led by Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, was conducted through a Virtual Town Hall on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) between 11 am and 12.30 pm. The programme forms part of the Maharashtra Government’s broader “Drug-Free Maharashtra” mission announced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
According to the police, the virtual session witnessed participation from around 45,000 people across 819 groups, including students, educational institutions, industrial establishments, housing societies, doctors’ associations, medical associations, hotel groups, NGOs, public organisations, and company employees.
During the interactive session, Commissioner Choubey addressed citizens on the dangers of drug addiction, preventive measures, and the role of the public in curbing narcotics-related crimes. Participants also raised questions regarding the harmful effects of various drugs, the appropriate steps to take if narcotics are suspected, and measures to prevent drug abuse in society.
The Police Commissioner responded to the queries in detail and urged citizens to actively support law enforcement by reporting suspicious drug-related activities.
To strengthen public involvement, the Pimpri Chinchwad Police also launched an Anti-Narcotics Helpline (7798100112), inviting citizens to share information, complaints, or reports related to drug trafficking and consumption.
Commissioner Choubey assured residents that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
“We are working with full commitment to eliminate the menace of drugs, but public cooperation is equally important. Awareness, counselling, and active citizen participation are essential to protect our youth from addiction. Let us work together to build a drug-free, safe, and stronger Pimpri Chinchwad,” he said.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner of Police Dr. Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner of Police Sarang Awad, along with Deputy Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners of Police, and Senior Police Inspectors from all police stations in the commissionerate.
Police officials said the initiative received an encouraging response from citizens and is expected to further strengthen awareness and community participation in preventing drug-related offences.
