Plan to Act Against Bangladeshi Immigrants and Illegal Scrap Dealers in Pimpri-Chinchwad: MLA Landge Raises Concerns in Assembly
MLA Mahesh Landge took a firm stance during the Winter Session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in Nagpur, demanding strict action against illegal scrap dealers and Bangladeshi infiltrators in the Chikhali-Kudalwadi area of Pimpri-Chinchwad. While presenting the issue before Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar, Landge urged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take the matter seriously. In response, the Chief Minister assured that necessary directives would be issued to the Municipal Commissioner and Police Commissioner. Additionally, he emphasized the need to be cautious about potential unrest following such actions.
The Winter Session of the Maharashtra Legislature is currently underway in Nagpur. On this occasion, MLA Mahesh Landge drew attention to the issue, receiving a positive response from the Chief Minister.
Key Concerns Raised by MLA Mahesh Landge
- Deportation of Illegal Immigrants: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have deported over 70 Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in the city. These infiltrators reportedly enter India through the West Bengal border using fake Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and passports. Some are allegedly involved in anti-national activities.
- Rising Numbers: The growing presence of Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants necessitates immediate intervention.
- Employment Impact: Bangladeshi infiltrators are easily available for low-wage jobs in industrial areas like Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chakan, Ranjangaon, and Talegaon, depriving local youth of job opportunities.
Challenges for Authorities
- Recent Arrests: Pimpri-Chinchwad Police recently arrested 23 Bangladeshi infiltrators in different areas. These individuals were found with fake identity documents, and investigations revealed the existence of a large racket involving agents who help such immigrants acquire passports.
- Potential Unrest: Any significant action against infiltrators in sensitive areas like Chikhali and Kudalwadi could lead to unrest. MLA Landge has urged the authorities to act cautiously yet decisively by conducting combing operations to detain individuals engaged in unlawful activities.
Environmental and Safety Concerns
- Scrap yards in the Chikhali-Kudalwadi region are reportedly harmful to the environment and public health. Frequent fires in these yards result in property loss and environmental damage. These incidents may also serve as a cover for anti-national activities.
- Many Bangladeshi and Rohingya workers are employed in these scrap yards without proper registration. This unregulated situation necessitates immediate action.
Chief Minister’s Assurance
MLA Landge requested Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to ensure timely action to curb illegal activities and address the environmental hazards posed by unregulated scrap yards. The Chief Minister assured that appropriate measures would be taken promptly.
“The scrap yards in Kudalwadi-Chikhali harm the city’s environment and health. Fires and property loss are frequent, and such incidents can mask anti-national activities. Immediate action against Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators is essential to maintain law and order.”
