The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) discovered that some tall apartment buildings were being built illegally in Ambegaon Budruk. The PMC gave warnings to these constructions, but nothing happened. In the last two years, the area has grown a lot. The PMC destroyed more than 500 apartments in 11 buildings that were built without permission yesterday.

According to the PMC, in Ambegaon Budruk, 11 unauthorized tall residential buildings were constructed near Sinhagad College. These buildings have around 500 apartments. In 2021, the PMC told them to stop building, but nothing happened. Then in 2023, they gave more warnings. On December 28th, the PMC used a machine called a jaw crusher to break down and destroy 45,050 square feet of these 11 buildings.

A former corporator of PMC complained to PMC commissioner Vikram Kumar about how the municipal corporation was doing things. In 2021, the engineers told the builders to stop, but nothing happened. By 2023, about 500 apartments were built, and some people were living in them. But even in 2021, no action was taken.

For this operation, PMC used one jaw crusher machine, three cranes, two breakers, one gas cutter and seven workers. The PMC says they will keep doing this because there are more illegal buildings in Ambegaon Budruk that need to be torn down.

The PMC is asking people to make sure a building has permission from the PMC and is registered with MahaRERA before buying an apartment.
