The Pune Municipal Corporation has intensified its citywide action against illegal structures, with major removals reported near Kharadi IT Park and surrounding areas.

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has ramped up its anti-encroachment drive, carrying out a large-scale demolition and clearance operation in the Kharadi area as part of its ongoing effort to tackle rising unauthorised settlements and roadside obstructions across the city.

According to details shared from the ground, the latest action focused on the Borate settlement area in Kharadi, where illegal structures and encroachments were removed in a coordinated operation. Visuals from the site highlighted the scale of demolition, with heavy machinery deployed to clear the area.

Officials said the drive was carried out under tight security arrangements. Around 50 to 60 police personnel were deployed along with nearly 15 to 20 JCB machines and about 10 to 15 police vans to maintain law and order throughout the demolition process. The entire zone was reportedly secured before the clearance work began.

This action is part of PMC’s stronger citywide encroachment removal campaign, which has been intensified in recent weeks. Similar operations were conducted earlier in other parts of Pune, including Dhanori, indicating a broader and stricter approach by the civic body.

Last month, PMC carried out a major removal drive at Mantri Market and the Kharadi Bypass stretch. During that operation, 102 unauthorised entities were cleared, including handcarts, roadside stalls, temporary counters, and makeshift huts that were occupying public spaces and causing congestion.

In another significant action near Kharadi IT Park, civic teams demolished around 30 illegal stalls set up in front of Gera Barclays using JCB machines. The area, which sees heavy commuter movement due to nearby IT offices and commercial hubs, had reportedly witnessed repeated complaints about obstruction and encroachment on public land.

PMC officials have maintained that these drives are essential to keep roads clear, reduce traffic bottlenecks, and ensure that public spaces are not illegally occupied. The corporation has also indicated that such operations will continue across all regional offices as part of a coordinated enforcement strategy.

Encroachment has remained a persistent challenge in fast-growing areas like Kharadi, where rapid development and increased population pressure have led to the rise of unauthorised structures along roadsides and open spaces.

With multiple drives being carried out in quick succession, PMC’s latest action signals a firm push toward stricter urban regulation and the removal of illegal occupations in key parts of Pune.
