The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has announced that the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro corridor is 82% complete. A crucial one-kilometer viaduct is still under construction. Work on this section has gained momentum, and once completed, safety inspections will begin. Officials expect the metro to be operational by October 2025.

The project is being developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Earlier delays had forced PMRDA to issue penalty warnings to the contractor and extend the deadline by six months. Since July 2024, work has progressed at a faster pace.

The pending work includes Baner, Sakal Nagar, and Civil Court stations, along with staircases and other infrastructure at 11 stations. Once these tasks are completed, the metro will undergo a trial run before final safety clearance.

The Hinjewadi-Shivaji Nagar Metro is the third metro corridor for Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. The entire route is elevated and passes over the Pune-Bengaluru Highway and the Mula River.

This metro line aims to ease traffic congestion between Hinjewadi IT Park and Shivajinagar, benefiting thousands of daily commuters. PMRDA officials remain confident that the project will meet the new deadline, ensuring better public transport for Pune’s growing population.
