Pimpri-Chinchwad, December 20, 2025:

Ahead of the crucial Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has received a major political boost with the induction of 22 senior leaders from across different political parties. The large-scale entry is being viewed as a significant consolidation of the BJP’s position in the industrial township.

The development comes days after several former BJP corporators and office-bearers joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in Pune. Countering that move, BJP MLA Mahesh Landge led the induction of prominent political figures, a step party leaders described as a strategic response ahead of the civic polls.

The model code of conduct for the PCMC elections is currently in force. Voting is scheduled to take place on January 15, 2026, with counting and results slated for January 16. Both the BJP and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction have announced that they will contest the elections independently, setting the stage for a high-intensity political contest. Political observers believe the civic battle is likely to emerge as a prestige fight between the dominant political leadership of Pimpri-Chinchwad and Baramati.

According to party sources, the latest inductions were finalised without extensive intervention from the central leadership, highlighting the BJP’s emphasis on decentralised decision-making at the city level. The move has further strengthened Mahesh Landge’s stature as a key BJP leader in Pimpri-Chinchwad, with clear support from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Maharashtra BJP president Ravindra Chavan.

Among those who joined the BJP are former mayors, deputy mayors, standing committee chairpersons, opposition leaders and corporators, including Sanjog Waghere Patil, Usha Waghere, Prashant Shitole, Vinod Nadhe, Prabhakar Waghere, Raju Misal, Amit Gavade, Meenal Yadav, Sanjay Nana Kate, Asha Suryavanshi, Prasad Shetty, Navnath Jagtap and several other prominent local leaders.

Welcoming the new entrants, MLA Mahesh Landge said that ahead of the 2025–26 PCMC general elections, leaders and former elected representatives from various parties have reposed their faith in the BJP under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the guidance of state president Ravindra Chavan. He expressed confidence that the party, focused on development-oriented governance, would secure a decisive mandate in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
