Powerful Pune : MSEDCL issues record breaking 2.33 lakh new electric connections in 1 year

Pune: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) Pune has achieved a record 2,33,609 new electricity connections between December 2022 to November 2023. Before that, for two-three years, the average count of new electricity connections per month was 15,000 to 16,000. However, during the above-mentioned period, it has gone up to 19,900 per month.

As per information from MSEDCL Pune, Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra has suggested speeding up customer service. Accordingly, Lokesh Chandra, Chairman and Managing Director of MSEDCL has accelerated customer service mainly by speeding up customer grievance redressal and new electricity connections.

Rajendra Pawar, Chief Engineer, MSEDCL, Pune said, “The count of new power connections has been further increased. For this, departmental office-wise review is being conducted every Monday and Thursday at the circle level. As a result, the monthly rate of new electricity connections was 15,000 to 16,000 a year ago, but now it has increased to 19,900 per month.”

In the financial year 2022-23, 1,95,986 new electricity connections were given in Pune Circle. Considering the financial year before that, an average of 15,350 to 16,350 electricity connections were given every month. After that, due to the high speed of new electricity connections, from December 2022 to November 2023, as many as 2,33,609 new electricity connections have been made operational. In the current financial year, in the eight months from April to November, as many as 1,59,209 new electricity connections of all categories have been commissioned.

It is worthy to note that Pawar is reviewing all the works periodically. Therefore, the process of providing new electricity connections has been accelerated. The record 2,33, 609 electricity connections implemented during the period from December 2022 to November 2023 include domestic: 1,97,180; commercial: 26,739; industrial: 3821; agricultural- 2829 and others 3040 electricity connections.

There are plenty of new electricity meters available in Pune Circle. Consumers should directly contact the executive engineer of the concerned department in case of any complaint regarding the electricity meter or new electricity connection. MSEDCL has also clarified that electricity consumers do not need to buy meters from the market.

New electricity connections have been given immediately by Mahavitaran to the houses constructed under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana at various places after paying the quotation amount. This includes new electricity connections of 6818 houses in Borhadewadi – 1296; Jadhavwadi Sector 12- 3722; Vadgaon Khurd- 815; Kharadi- 865; Ramtekdi – 120.
