Pune: ₹7.63 Cr Meth Hidden In Salwar Suits, Foreign Woman Arrested
Pune, July 18, 2025: In a significant drug bust, the Pune unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested a foreign national with 3.815 kg of crystal methamphetamine, worth an estimated ₹7.63 crore in the illegal market. The psychotropic substance was ingeniously concealed inside custom-designed cavities in salwar suits.
Acting on intelligence inputs, DRI officials launched a joint surveillance operation on the Mumbai-Bangalore highway in coordination with Pune Customs. The woman, traveling by bus from Delhi to Bengaluru, was identified as a suspect.
An initial inspection of her luggage revealed nothing unusual, but a thorough search of the bus uncovered an unclaimed bag hidden in the rear compartment. Inside, officers discovered six folded salwar suits. On closer examination, they found specially-crafted cardboard inserts with polythene-lined cavities filled with a crystal-like substance. Field tests later confirmed it to be methamphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth.
The woman was immediately taken into custody under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Authorities are now investigating the origins of the consignment and attempting to trace the intended recipients.
This operation highlights the increasingly sophisticated methods being used by drug traffickers to evade law enforcement agencies.
