Pune, July 21, 2026: A 17-year-old boy was allegedly hacked to death by a group of seven men in Pune’s Katraj area on Monday, with police suspecting an old rivalry as the motive behind the murder.
The victim, identified as Ganesh Ravindra Malve, had reportedly gone with a friend to collect a repaired mobile phone when the accused allegedly intercepted them. As Ganesh tried to escape, the group chased him and repeatedly attacked him with sickles and iron weapons, inflicting severe injuries to his head, face and hands.
He was immediately rushed to Bharati Hospital, where doctors declared him dead before treatment.
Police have registered a murder case against seven accused, including Akash Gaikwad. According to the investigation, the attack was allegedly carried out over a previous dispute between the victim and the accused.
So far, four of the seven accused have been arrested. During the operation, police publicly paraded three of the suspects while taking them into custody amid heavy rain.
Following the incident, the victim’s family and relatives gathered at the spot, grieving the teenager’s death and demanding strict action against those responsible.
Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
