Pune: 23-Year-Old BJ Medical Student Found Dead In Hostel Room
Pune, August 6, 2025: A wave of shock and grief spread across the city after the body of a young medical student was found in the women’s hostel of the prestigious BJ Government Medical College in Pune.
The deceased has been identified as Jyoti Krishnakumar Meena, a 23-year-old resident of Rajasthan. According to preliminary reports, she allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself in her hostel room late at night.
What happened at the hostel?
Late Tuesday night, Jyoti’s friends grew suspicious after she failed to respond to repeated knocks on her door. Alarmed, they immediately informed the college administration and police.
When police reached the scene and broke open the door, they discovered Jyoti had taken the extreme step. She was rushed to Sassoon General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
No suicide note found
The exact reason behind the suicide is still unclear, and no suicide note was found at the scene. Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
Battling depression for two years
As per available information, Jyoti had been reportedly struggling with mental health issues for the past two years and was undergoing treatment for depression. Her family has arrived from Rajasthan, and further procedures are underway.
