Pune: 96 Unauthorized Structures Demolished In Wakad; Road Widening Underway
Pimpri, July 16, 2025: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has carried out a demolition drive to clear 96 slums spread over approximately 46,000 sq. ft. in the Kalakhadak slum area of Wakad. These structures were obstructing the widening of a 45-meter road in the city.
Under the guidance of Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh, the civic body initiated the clearance of unauthorized slums, shanties, shops, and brick structures along the proposed road widening area. During the operation, 96 slums across a 250-meter stretch with a width of 16 meters in Kalakhadak were demolished.
Senior officials including Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale Patil, City Engineer Makarand Nikam, Joint Commissioner Manoj Lonkar, Assistant City Engineer Bapu Gaikwad, Deputy Commissioner and Competent Authority Anna Bodade, and other department heads were present during the drive. The action was supported by officials from the anti-encroachment, slum clearance, town planning, urban transport (BRTS), and electrical departments, using one Pokland machine, seven JCBs, four dumpers, and 15 labourers.
Road Widening Work Begins Immediately
Following the demolition, PCMC swiftly began the road widening work at Wakad. Plans are underway to relocate electric poles, water pipelines, and other service lines obstructing the project.
Benefits to Citizens
The widened road is expected to resolve traffic congestion in the area, particularly for commuters traveling towards Bhumkar Chowk, Hinjawadi, Thergaon, and Pimpri, thereby easing travel and reducing inconvenience.
